Singing Mama

I am currently working on a few new pieces for my recital in the fall and I'm mildly obsessed with them. It's sometimes a challenge to practice whilst chasing the Bean so I go through songs over and over in my head (I usually do the majority of my practicing at night after he goes to bed). So let me share, so you too, can have them stuck in your head.
The first is an aria from Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress. Anne Truelove, wrestles with feeling abandoned and her desire to go find and help her wayward lover Tom. Stravinsky is a bit strange sounding at first listen, but his angular lines all make sense when you think of the opposing forces at work in Anne's mind. I am quickly falling in love with this song!

My favorite moments are at 2:20 and 3:45 if you can't make it through the whole thing.

Another piece that I've got on the brain is "La Fille De Cadix" by Delibes. Here sung by the incomprable Dame Joan Sutherland.

Seriously Joan? Seriously. That was awesome. I could make out with that song.

I've got to go practice now that the Bean is asleep. That French isn't going to mispronounce itself.

I can totally relate to your determination to go to voice lessons and practice. I ran across your blog today while contemplating mine, still in its infancy. I have sung all my life but never had formal lessons until now, at 58! I can't believe what I've learned and how my voice has improved, the control. I sang Lachen und Weinen at my spring recital and am working on new for fall. Enjoy!
